Fire and rescue to strike over pensions

Firefighters will be striking again tomorrow as part of ongoing disputes between the Fire Brigades Union and the Government over reform of the firefighters’ pension scheme.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) will be joining the walk-out which takes place between 6.30am and 8.30am.

People are reminded to take extra care to protect themselves and their loved ones from the risks of fire and other emergencies.

Strikes also took place on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

As during previous strikes, NFRS will be putting plans in place to provide an emergency response, but is warning that it will not be business as usual, and reminding residents and business owners to be extra vigilant.

Alex Bennett, chief fire officer urged people to take extra care in kitchens, on the roads and with fireworks.
