The man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash on the A1 has been named by police.

Nigel Sowerby, 37, from Cleckheaton, in West Yorkshire, was driving a VW van when the incident happened yesterday at 7.43am, near to Felton.

He was taken to the RVI by air ambulance but subsequently died as a result of his injuries.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been bailed pending further inquiries.

A BMW and a Citroen car were also involved in the collision, which occurred on the northbound stretch of the road.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the collision is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 ext 69191.
