Famous store up for vintage accolade

Barter Books, Alnwick

Barter Books, Alnwick

A quirky north Northumberland bookshop is in the running to win a top industry accolade – but it needs your help to take the title.

Barter Books has been shortlisted in the Vintage Shop of the Year category, as part of the Homes & Antiques Magazine Awards.

The competition celebrates the most interesting businesses on the high street.

The Alnwick-based store, housed in the town’s former railway station, is one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain.

It is up against 24 other shops across the country in the Vintage section.

Other categories include Antiques Shop of the Year.

Now, the public can vote for their favourite, and stand a chance of winning a short break in London.

The business in each category with the most votes will be announced at The Decorative Antiques & Textiles Fair in London in April.

To vote, visit www.homesandantiques.com. Voting closes on February 28.
