The Environment Agency has issued a statement in relation to a fire at Swarland Brickworks today.
Andrew Turner, environment management team leader at the Environment Agency, said: “The Environment Agency has attended the site of a fire at a carpet recycling firm at Thrunton Brickworks off the A697, where a number of bales of crumbed waste carpets has been burning today. The carpets are recycled, and this operation is carried out under a permit issued by the Environment Agency.
“Our officers are assessing the impact of the fire on the environment and the local ecology.”
Firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze.
