EAST CHEVINGTON PARISH COUNCIL: Governor fears for school future

Coun Paul Claridge, chairman of governors at Amble St Cuthbert’s RC First School, told parish councillors on Monday that he fears it is an impossible situation to try to save it from closure, after it received an inadequate Ofsted report.

COUNCIL’S PRECEPT IS SET

The parish council has set its precept at £53,500 for the 2014/15 financial year, compared to £66,000 in 2013/14. Clerk John Douglas said the decision to make a net reduction of £12,500 was to try to stabilise the precept. A county council payment to subsidise the effect of the ‘bedroom tax’ was not available for the coming financial year.

CHILDREN’S FACES WERE TREMENDOUS

Coun Ann Elliott said it was tremendous to see the children enjoying the pantomime, Peter Pantastic, at Druridge Bay Community Centre on the Monday before Christmas. She added: “I enjoyed watching the children watch it.”
