Duchess’s pupils excel at GCSEs

Waiting for Video...

Pupils at Alnwick’s Duchess’s Community High School were jumping for joy this morning after attaining the best GCSE results the school has seen.

As the first year group to face the removal of module exams, with all their tests at the end of the year, headteacher Maurice Hall is delighted that his Year 11 students have achieved the best results in terms of the proportion of them achieving or exceeding the benchmark of five A* to Cs – with 65 per cent attaining the grades.

And 25 per cent of students also achieved three A* or A grades with significant success in English literature, English language, maths, French, textiles, film studies and sociology.

The school also offers a number of high-quality vocational courses with a good number of distinctions or distinction*s within the different subjects.

Mr Hall said: “In this period of significant change all of our students are to be congratulated on their success. New exam systems provide a real challenge to both students and school communities. New skills and approaches are needed. Thank you for all your support in helping our students achieve their goals and move on to the next step in their learning, whateer that may be.”
