Drugs farm discovered in Northumberland village

Police have raided a cannabis farm in a north Northumberland village.

Acting on information from the public, officers found the farm at a house in Powburn, on Friday September 21, and recovered 92 cannabis plants.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott: “Following the discovery of this cannabis farm we have stepped up patrols in the area and we would urge anyone with any information about drug use and supply in their community to contact police.

“We’ll continue to investigate any suspicious activity and act on information passed to us by the public to prevent drug use and supply in the community.

“Residents should ensure they report anything suspicious, such as unusual activity and smells, as well as blacked out windows to police so we can investigate. Private landlords also have their part to play in notifying us about any concerns they have about unusual behaviour at their properties or of their tenants.

“We’ll continue to work closely with the community to ensure any cannabis farms across the area are dismantled and those running them are brought to justice.”

Anyone with information about drug supply and use in their neighbourhood should contact Northumbria Police on the 101 non-emergency number.

* Hung Nguyen, 24, of Powburn, Alnwick, has been charged with producing a controlled drug and is due to appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court later today.
