Dogs are back for this year’s Powburn Show

A dog show is back in the progmramme for this year’s Powburn Show on Saturday.

After a year’s absence in 2013 the event is taking place again with classes including the dog with the waggiest tail and other novelties.

A terrier show will also take place as usual alongside the well-supported terrier racing, which always provides a laugh or two for spectators.

And there is a new addition in the industrial classes this year with a sponge cake baked by a man category as well as a new best mini scarecrow section for children to enter.

There’s lots of fun for youngsters with facepainting and a bungee trampoline in addition to the fairground rides and children’s sports.

New attractions include demonstrations of dry-stone walling, chainsaw wood carving and pottery painting.

Last year’s event was hailed as ‘very successful’ and had the largest number of visitors as well as the largest number of sheep entering the livestock competition.

And while the show is the main attraction, there’s a hill race for the sporting types and pony sports and jumping.

The main ring will see Cumberland and Westmoreland wrestling taking place – with classes for all ages and weights.

And alongise the show there will be a car boot sale.

Judging of the industrial classes and flowers and vegetables starts at 11am with sheep judging at 11.30am.

Events will take place throughout the day.

Entry on the gate is £4 adults, £3 conc, £2 five to 16 year-olds and under 5s are free.

The car boot sale is £5 per car.
