A Second World War veteran, from Amble, has passed away, aged 92.

Ronald Pringle died on Sunday, February 2.

He was part of the Warkworth and Amble District Royal British Legion branch.

A long-standing member of the Legion, he was, for more than 40 years, Poppy Appeal organiser in Amble, and had been attached to the former Amble Branch.

His funeral was held in the town last Friday at St Cuthbert’s Parish Church.

The Warkworth and Amble branch standard-bearer and members attended.

Mr Pringle joined the Royal Air Force in the Second World War in 1942, at the age of 20.

He completed his basic training in Blackpool and was posted to RAF Cosford to train as an Airframe Rigger.

Mr Pringle was then sent to RAF Leconfield and Northern India via South Africa. He was discharged as a leading aircraftman in 1946.

Mr Pringle also served as clerk of works at RAF Boulmer and Acklington Prison.
