Concerns over future of Amble business club

Concerns have been raised about the future of Amble Business Club, after it has been decided to stop meeting on a monthly basis.

The move comes after a second attempt to hold an AGM earlier this month was abandoned because of a lack of attendees, as well as a small number of apologies.

It has been decided to halt the monthly meetings and form a working/elect committee to handle any ongoing commitments.

An anonymous questionnaire is to be sent out to as many Amble businesses as possible to gauge opinion about the future of the club, what members would like to see the club do, or if they feel a club is no longer a requirement for the town.

The next step will be a social event sometime in the next couple of months.

At last week’s Amble Town Council meeting, Coun Craig Weir said: “I think this is quite concerning that there is a possibility that the club could fold. I hope it will continue in some form.”

After the meeting, chairman of the club Colin Harris said: “A recent flurry of activity on the business club website shows there is still an appetite for businesses to discuss matters in the town, maybe a monthly meeting isn’t the best focus.”
