Concern fails to stop new village wine bar
Concern about the number of places selling alcohol in a village has failed to stop a new wine bar.
The parish council at Widdrington Station and Stobswood – joint population about 2,400 – is worried this would be the fifth business selling alcohol in the parish.
It objected to the planning application by North Shields architect Ian Cook to convert an empty shop to a wine bar with a cash machine in the outside wall.
The county’s north area planning committee heard the bar, behind the Cooperative building in a row of units, would allow customers of the adjoining Indian restaurant to have a glass of wine when waiting for a table or a takeaway meal. They granted permission unanimously.
