A well-established family-run business is giving Gazette readers the chance to win a year’s supply of dog food, worth more than £110.

AFS Country Store, in Alnwick, has teamed up with us to give away 12, 15kg bags of Arkwright Complete chicken or beef feed.

And the firm has also offered to give the same prize to one lucky canine from dog charity SHAK – the beneficiary of the most recent Jam Jar Army campaign.

Managing partner Steve McKee said: “As well as the reader offer, we will be feeding a dog from SHAK for a year.

“SHAK is a worthwile cause and we have a lot of customers that home dogs and come in looking for advice.

“We probably know the name of the dogs more than our customers and there isn’t anyone here who hasn’t got a dog.”

AFS, based at Sawmill Industrial Estate, off South Road, also has a jam jar out for SHAK on its front counter.

The company, founded in 1977, describes itself as a one-stop-shop for people’s rural needs, selling goods such as farming and agricultural supplies, pet food and supplements, country clothing and equestrian accessories.

An expanding business, it moved into its present showroom and warehouse in 2008.

Steve said: “We used to be very much an agricultural business but we now sell a variety of products.

“We are very much open to the public here at Sawmill.”

To stand a chance of winning the dog food, buy the current edition of the Northumberland Gazette and complete the question on page 31.

Then send your answer to Dog Food Competition, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, Northumberland, NE66 1PN, by 5pm on Friday, January 24.
