St Cuthbert’s Parish Church, in Amble, is currently hosting a First World War exhibition.
It contains some of the material displayed by Amble Town Council at the start of the month, together with contributions from the Pottergate Centre’s outreach in Amble and from many parishioners.
The whole collection comes together to form a fascinating and moving display.
On Wednesday, at noon, there will be a short reflective service for prayers for peace and justice followed by a short talk about mobilisation and retreat from Mons, given by Derek Gladding. On Wednesday, August 27, at 7pm, the church will show a First World War-themed film. More information on this is available in the church.
Entry is free to both the talk and the film, but any donations will go towards the work of improving the parish church and parish hall.
The exhibition is in St Cuthbert’s Church, Church Street, Amble, NE65 0DY during daylight hours throughout August.
l Western Front expert Derek Gladding will also be giving a talk about the period of British retreat from Mons and Le Cateau, and its ultimate significance to both sides in the overall conflict, at Alnwick’s Bailiffgate Museum on Tuesday, August 26, at 7pm.
Tickets cost £5, including a glass of wine/juice. Book via bailiffgatemuse um.co.uk
