See Guzelian Copy It"s more than eight decades since this now spindly shrub was plucked from a toy shop window, but as it is dug out from the attic for the 84th time, it stands proud alongside its 84-year-old owner who has had it since the year he was born. As more tinsel is added each Christmas to hide the annual demise of more artificial needles, the 4ft tree remains the centrepoint of the Hewitt family household during every festive season. Douglas Hewitt, 84, and his wife Mavis, 82, have just put up the Christmas tree for yet another year in their home in South Anston, South Yorks, where their family will enjoy its familiar presence.

St John the Baptist Church, Alnmouth, is holding a Christmas coffee morning in the village’s Hindmarsh Hall on Saturday from 10am to noon.

There will be a grand raffle, tombola and more.

Admission is by donation.
