Fire crews were called to a north Northumberland town yesterday afternoon during the strike period by the Fire Brigades Union.
Reports of a chimney fire in Amble around 1.30pm during the two-hour strike led to an appliance from the town and another from Alnwick attending the incident on Bridge Street.
The crews were on scene for about an hour and 40 minutes extinguishing the fire and making the chimney safe.
It came as the Fire Brigades Union was staging its latest period of strike action over eight days as part of its ongoing national dispute with the Government over pensions. It is the 16th period of action to take place in the dispute over reform of firefighter pension schemes, since September 2013.
Today is the last day of the eight with the strike periods from noon until 2pm and then 10.59pm until 11.59pm.
