School pupils have been writing poems inspired by the perfect muse – their mums.

The Co-operative Funeralcare, in Amble and Alnwick, launched a poetry competition for Mother’s Day.

Children from first schools in Warkworth, Acklington, Red Row, Broomhill and Embleton were invited to enter and the winning pupils from each were given flowers and chocolates for Mum.

Vouchers for Amble ice-cream parlour Spurreli were also up for grabs.

Claire Hudspith, from the firm, said she enjoyed reading all the ‘creative and imaginative’ poems.

Martha’s poem – My Astonishing Mum!!!

My Mum is protective and she’s perfect,

My Mum is creative and wool-tastic,

She’s positive in every possible way she can,

My mum is protective and she’s perfect.

My Mum is lovely and smiley and strong,

My Mum is happy and caring,

She’s a magical baker,

My Mum is lovely and smiley and strong.

My Mum is protective and she’s perfect,

My Mum is mysterious in magical ways,

She will always love me and I will always love her,

My Mum is protective and she’s perfect.
