Changes to bus services suggested
POTENTIAL bus service changes have been put forward in a consultation document about public transport in the next five years.
Northumberland County Council’s Public Transport Strategy sets out how the authority will ensure the appropriate bus and rail services for passengers in the county.
And in it potential growth on services along the north Northumberland coast as well as other parts of the area are recognised.
The draft report states that there would be no opportunity to speed up services along the A1 from Newcastle to Alnwick and beyond but that the council will work with Arriva to look at improving comfort and features on buses.
It also says that passenger numbers from Amble, Acklington and Hadston would increase if the hourly service was more frequent. And if it was extended north to Alnwick via Alnmouth it could solve the problem of a lack of buses between the Links Estate at Amble and Alnwick.
Another suggestion is that an action plan is drawn up for bus services along the Northumberland coast working with local operators, the AONB and stakeholders, with the minimum aspiration being an hourly service along ‘core sections’ – Alnwick, Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses and Bamburgh – seven days a week from Easter to October.
It also states that there is potential to improve services to Holy Island and links between Alnwick and Rothbury.
