Cancer champ pens second book about the disease

A brave mum who battled cancer has written her second book about the disease.

Stephanie Butland’s new work, Thrive: The Bah! Guide to Wellness After Cancer, was published earlier this week.

It comes on the back of the Broomhill-based author’s successful first title, How I Said Bah! To Cancer.

The second book focuses on not necessarily the elation or even immediate relief many patients feel they should experience after cancer, but the complex emotions which often follow in its wake.

Using a combination of storytelling, practical advice, humour, visualisations and meditations, she explains how to make the giant leap from merely surviving to thriving.

“Most people who have been through cancer feel they should be infinitely thankful when they’re given the all-clear. After all, we have essentially been given a new life,” said the 41-year-old.

“However, we’re often surprised when we feel entirely flat. This keeps us from focusing on the positive rather than negative aspects of our physical, emotional and spiritual journey.”

Stephanie, a former Coquet High School pupil, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. She is now in good health.

Her second book has been published by Hay House. A book signing session, in conjunction with New Writing North, will be held at Waterstones, Newcastle, at 6.30pm on Thursday, September 13.
