A call has been made for Rothbury Highland Pipe Band to be recognised for its efforts in the village.

At the annual assembly last week resident Robin Murray said that the band would be celebrating its 60th anniversary over the coming months and asked if the parish council would support some kind of tribute for their work.

Mr Murray said: “In the 1900s a group of men got together and formed a kilted pipe band. They went from strength to strength and then various things happened and they disbanded. But that group of fellas reformed 60 years ago, this year or next.

“Two of those original members are still playing and the band has done an awful lot for the village over the years, they are stalwarts.

“I think it would be nice to do something to celebrate them, not just a plaque on the wall, but something to show our appreciation for them.”

The parish council agreed to look at what they might be able to do.
