Buses stuck in snow
Two buses were caught in the snow in the west of Northumberland earlier today.
At just before 9am this morning, police received information that two buses with passengers on board had become stuck in the snow on the A696 close to Otterburn.
Officers and the local authority attended and during early afteroon were able to get the buses moving, they have now carried on their journey without issue.
Police were supported by Army personnel from the barracks at Otterburn.
The buses were heated throughout and all passengers on the bus were safe and well.
The roads in that area – the A68, A696 and many minor roads in north Northumberland – are currently impassable and officers are reminding people not to use these roads.
Regular patrols are taking place on these stretches of road.
Officers are out and about in communities to reassure them and police are working closely with the local authority to try to clear roads during the adverse weather. Anyone who has any concerns should contact local officers.
Many schools across the force area are currently closed and police advise parents to check the county council’s website for the latest information.
