A telecoms company is unable to provide a definitive list of exchanges which are to be connected to superfast broadband as sites cannot be confirmed until they are properly investigated.
A letter to the Gazette last week asked us to challenge BT for a list of all those they would be connecting.
But Simon Roberson, regional partnership manager for BT for the North East, said that a contract has been signed to deliver superfast broadband to 91 per cent of homes in Northumberland.
He said: “It is better to suffer the frustration now than for people to have bought homes or set up businesses because we have said we are going to take superfast there, and then two years later we find we are unable to do it.
“It is also much more cost-effective for us to plan it in stages.”
He added that quarterly announcements are made about the exchanges being connected.
