‘Britain’s cheapest flat’ sells for £46,000
A flat in Alnwick that was put on the market for just £1,000 has been sold at auction for 46 times that price.
The two-bedroom apartment, on Roxburgh Place near the town centre, was originally on the market for £85,000 – but the price was slashed after the owner decided to make a quick sale.
The move attracted widespread curiosity, and the flat was dubbed ‘Britain’s cheapest house’ by local and national media.
Brenda Simpson, a negotiator at estate agent Rook Matthews Sayer, which managed the sale, said that around 40 people had visited the property for viewings ahead of the auction.
“There was an awful lot of interest,” she said.
“We spent a lot of time at the flat doing viewings.”
The flat was purchased by a private buyer at the auction, held at the Marriott Hotel at Gosforth Park, on Wednesday evening.
