Older people across the country are getting set to celebrate The Abbeyfield Society’s 58th birthday.
A number of community events are being hosted by volunteers, staff and residents at Abbeyfield’s houses and care homes in Northumberland during the National Abbeyfield Week celebrations, which start on Monday.
Jane Perry, Abbeyfield’s north division manager, said: “Abbeyfield is a much-loved charity in Northumberland and is recognised for the work it does to enrich the lives of older people in its homes and within the local community.
“National Abbeyfield Week gives our volunteers, staff and residents the chance to spread the word about the important work Abbeyfield does to make life better for older people.
“We’ll be having lots of fun along the way and we’re extending a very warm invitation to people to call in and say hello at events taking place throughout Northumberland.”
On Tuesday, D-Day Nostalgia takes place at Armstrong House, in Bamburgh, from 4.30pm to 6pm, featuring a celebratory cream tea accompanied by wartime tunes.
Then, next Saturday, Abbeyfield House in Warkworth hosts a wine and cheese night with bingo and quiz from 6.30pm.
