Binmen and other SITA UK employees cycled from Berwick to Alnwick and then on to Hexham on the Northumberland leg of their Big Ride across the country.
The cross-country cycle relay set off from Stoneyhill, near Aberdeen, on May 12 and will finish at St Erth in Cornwall in five weeks’ time.
The winding 2,400-mile route, designed to include as many of SITA UK’s facilities as possible, makes the journey almost three times as long as the traditional Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle route of 874 miles.
Nearly 300 members of SITA UK staff are taking part to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, its charity of the year.
Nearly £20,000 has been raised so far.
All participants have been given a day off work to participate in the event and have been encouraged to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.
