Tristan Woods on his charity challenge

A young man from Powburn has completed an 84-mile challenge to raise funds for the charity that supports him.

Tristan Woods, 20, is autistic and receives support from the Toby Henderson Trust in Morpeth.

To say thanks to the charity which gives him invaluable help and advice, he decided to take on a gruelling six-day challenge.

Accompanied by his mum Jo English, stepdad Stuart English, sister Madeleine Woods, brother Lucas English and friend Struan Mowbray, Tristan walked 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall, from Wallsend to Bowness on Solway.

Tristan said: “I go to Bond at the Barn once a month which is a special social night set up by The Toby Henderson Trust.

“We do things like bowling, wall climbing, going out for a pizza or staying at the centre to watch a DVD together.

“Whatever we do, I really look forward to it. It makes me very happy.

‘‘I walked Hadrian’s Wall because I want to help the Trust do more great work and I really want to thank everyone who donated.”

With the aim of raising £500 Tristan has surpassed his expectations and is already close to the £600 mark.

The Toby Henderson Trust provides information, social groups and support for autistic children and young adults.

Tristan has used the Trust for the past 10 years.

Of his condition, he said: “I am diagnosed with autism which hinders my life skills which most people take for granted.

“I find social interaction and social situations difficult to interpret, although I do like to be with people.

“I find it very difficult to make friends and do not independently cope with getting about so my family support me a lot in most things that I do.”

Stepdad Stuart said: “Tristan really enjoyed the walk and, although the whole family did it with him, he was the one at the front with the determination to push everyone along.”

Sponsorship is still being taken for the event. If you want to donate visit Tristan’s page at www.justgiving.com/Tristan-woods
