The Jam Jar Army total continues to tick upwards with a famous Alnwick firm contributing to the campaign this week.

Fishing firm Hardy & Greys has been collecting coins in jam jars at its Willowburn Industrial Estate premises and this week the company handed over £153.42, which is supporting the talented youngsters of the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre.

It offers great opportunities to around 135 young actors, dancers and singers across the three different age groups.

Recent returns have also seen £84.60 in assorted jars as well as £304.99 from the shops and businesses in Alnwick.

This means that the total has now reached £8,863.86.

And people elsewhere in north Northumberland are getting involved and hosting events to boost the Army’s coffers still further.

A Ritz Tea Room Experience will be taking place next month in Etal Village Hall. On Saturday, October 13, there will be two sittings for tea, one at 3pm and the other at 4.30pm.

It will consist of tea, savouries and cakes with an old-fashioned waitress service, while entertainment will be provided by pianist Peter Brown.

Tickets cost £5 or £3 for a child. They can be booked in advance by emailing etal20@aol.com or by calling 07970 937719.
