An Armed Forces chef from Amble has been commended in this year’s Army in Scotland Christmas Cake Competition.

Private Lee Wake, 28, is based with 39 Engineer Regiment in Kinloss Barracks, Forres, near Inverness, and scooped a prize at the contest, which was hosted by his Regiment this week.

It was open to all Army chefs in Scotland and was judged in two categories; Junior – for Privates to Lance Corporals – and senior, for Corporals, Sergeants and above.

The competition was of a very high standard and the cakes were judged on precision, colour choice, creativity, originality, difficulty of design and skill.

Lee took the runner-up prize in the Junior section and was commended for his cake’s intricate decoration.

He has been in the Army for four years and is a fully-qualified chef with The Royal Logistic Corps.

Lee and his team are responsible for feeding the 800 soldiers based with 39 Engineer Regiment. A former Coquet High School pupil, he worked at Cheviot Foods before joining the Army.

The cakes will be auctioned for the charity Cash for Kids.
