Archway opens to raise funds for charity

Two neighbours have come together to raise funds for HospiceCare North Northumberland.

The Chatton women – Joyce Fairbairn and Joan Johnson – are hosting a garden fete for the charity with an added twist.

Living next door to each other at Red Rose Cottage and Dancing Green House in South Hazelrigg, they have built an arch between the two gardens to make it easier for people to walk between them.

There will be the usual stalls, tombola and coconut shy for people to enjoy.

Emma Arthur, event and community fund-raiser at the hospice, said “What a fantastic idea and so generous of Joyce and Joan to do this for us. As an independent local hospice, we rely heavily on community events such as this to raise funds for us.

The event will run on Sunday, from 1pm to 6pm. Entry is £1 and under 16s are free.
