Were you caught out by our April Fool story? The plans for an indoor curling rink in Alnwick were just a joke. The story is below if you would like to read it.
Ambitious plans for an indoor curling rink development in the centre of Alnwick have been announced by a Northern tycoon.
The scheme, unveiled by Ali Prolof, is earmarked for the Northumberland Hall and it is hoped that the rink will open for business on April 1 next year with a televised pro-celebrity curling challenge.
Mr Prolof said: “The whole country is buzzing with excitement about curling since the success of Team GB in Sochi.
“I believe it should be Team GB, not just Team Scotland, and so I am backing the plan to develop Alnwick’s Northumberland Hall into an indoor curling arena.
“The location and dimensions of the Northumberland Hall are perfect.
“Imagine the buzz of kids coming out of school and going straight to the rink with their eyes set on becoming the next GB Skip.”
Mr Prolof’s application for listed-building consent proposes that the rink will also be offered during the day to host ice dance classes for the over 50s.
He added: “Exercise to music is excellent therapy for those suffering with brittle bones.”
