Another Portas door opens

Late last year, retail guru Mary Portas published a report to the Government on the state of British high streets.

The Government invited bids from market towns to win a share of £1.5million to invest in bespoke regeneration schemes.

Twelve towns were selected to become Portas Pilots. Berwick was successful, but Alnwick and Amble missed out.

Due to the high volume of bids, the Town Team Partner scheme was devised to allow the remainder to access assistance.
