Another day, another grand

Another week and another milestone as the Jam Jar Army marches on towards the end of the year, looking to raise as much as possible.

Two weeks ago, this year’s campaign, for the Alnwick Playhouse Youth Theatre, hit the original target of £10,000.

But we decided to let the Army continue while on a roll until the end of the year to make sure that everyone who has been collecting jars returns them.

This week, another £332.65 came in via jam jar collections, while the West Percy Hunt made a donation of £50.

This takes the total up to £11,069.54, knocking off another milestone as the cash continues to come in.

The Youth Theatre is based in Alnwick, but offers theatrical experiences for children of all ages from across north Northumberland.

When the campaign was launched, those signed up came from Bamburgh, Seahouses, Rothbury, Eglingham, Edlingham, Morpeth and Wooler then others from Chathill, Embleton, Christon Bank, Longhorsley, Lesbury, Widdrington and all points in between.

When the Army hit the £10,000 mark, Judy Tribe, from the Youth Theatre, said: “It is very good to know the future of the Youth Theatre has been secured for now, offering local children the chance of fun theatrical experiences.”

That’s why it’s important that anyone who still has jars, which have been collecting for the Youth Theatre, gets them in in the next month or so.

Jars can be returned to the Gazette office on Bondgate Without in Alnwick or the Playhouse itself, next door.

Next year will see the Jam Jar Army choose a new beneficiary, as it marches on for a third year.
