Roads won’t be affected by baton

The Mayor and clerk had met James Fell, from the county council, to be briefed on the Queen’s Baton Relay coming to Alnwick in June.

The baton will not be visible during its journey through the county so no disruption to traffic is envisaged.

New storage for groups

New storage accommodation has been found for the town council, Alnwick Markets and the town’s community festivals at a unit on the Willowburn Industrial Estate. The council’s share of the annual rent is £1,000 and contributions are also being made by the music and food festivals, Alnwick Markets and the Spring Show.

Constitution under the microscope

A working-group meeting had looked at the town council’s constitution and came up with a number of suggestions and potential changes, which include the council meeting all 12 months of the year, now to include August.

Relations between town and county

A consultation is underway on a revised charter between Northumberland County Council and town and parish councils. Members are to hold a joint meeting with county officers to discuss the proposals.
