Alnwick’s Bondgate Tower reopens to traffic

The road into Alnwick town centre through the Bondgate Tower was closed at the end of last week.

Bondgate Tower in Alnwick reopened this afternoon after emergency works have been carried out to repair crash damage.

The 15th century gatehouse, through which the B6341 runs, was hit by a lorry last week, and was originally closed on Friday for an inspection to take place.

But more damage was caused in the accident than previously thought and it was shut for repairs to take place, with traffic diverted around the town.

It was estimated that the work would take until tomorrow to complete but has been finished a day early.
