From silver medals at the Commonwealth Games to other international achievements, the county’s sporting heroes are in abundance.

And we want you to put forward your favourite for this year’s Best of Northumberland Awards.

Organised by Northeast Press, publishers of the Northumberland Gazette, Morpeth Herald and News Post Leader, alongside Tweeddale Press’s Berwick Advertiser, the awards recognise the extraordinary achievments or ordinary people.

This year Active Leisure is sponsoring the Sporting Achievement category, which is just one of ten awards on offer.

Bruce Ledger, chief executive of Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure, which is part of Active Northumberland, said: “We are very pleased to be supporting the Best of Northumberland Awards again this year, and we are particularly delighted to be sponsoring the Sporting Achievement award.

“Active Northumberland is committed to inspiring local communities in our county to be active and healthy, so to be given the opportunity to help promote and celebrate local sporting achievement and excellence is fantastic.”

Sue Dungworth, chairman of the BVAL board said: “We are very much looking forward to hearing the inspiring stories from people in our local community at the Best of Northumberland Awards, and we would encourage everyone to make the effort to nominate someone they think deserves to have their work or achievement recognised.”

Other categories include Community Group, Role Model, Child of Courage, Fund-raiser of the Year and more.

A shortlist of entries will be drawn up and winners will be presented with their awards at a special ceremony at Alnwick Garden on Thursday, September 18.

To nominate your hero fill in the form below and send it back to the address given.
