All aboard to help rail bid

Volunteers are wanted to help the development of a heritage railway project during a specially-organised working week.

Those behind the Aln Valley Railway are holding an October TrackFest, starting on Monday and running until October 7.

The aim is to lay as much track and pointwork as possible at the railway’s Lionheart site, in Alnwick, and then to pack and ballast it.

If any physically fit individuals would like to join the team for all or part of the week they will be made most welcome.

Volunteers need to wear appropriate footwear and clothing, including hard-wearing gloves. Hard hats and high-viz jackets can be supplied.

There is a variety of other jobs for those preferring not to be involved in the heavy tracklaying work, such as preparing tools and materials and doing some gardening work.

Prospective volunteers are asked to contact Kevin via www.alnvalleyrailway.co.uk, where there is a link to his email and TrackFest details.
