1st Whittingham BP Scout Group on their trip to Lesotho.

A group of 17 scouts, senior scouts and leaders from the 1st Whittingham BP Scout Group spent time in Lesotho this summer.

The scouts took part in a variety of activities from meeting Aids orphans to planting trees to prevent soil erosion.

They also took out 50 stoves that burn wood at such high temperatures that the smoke is combusted, so that they burn cleanly and efficiently, causing fewer smoke-related diseases.

The funding for the stoves, and the activities in Lesotho, was secured from Northumberland Uplands Local Action Group.

The group is holding a special African evening next Thursday at 6.30pm in Whittingham Memorial Hall, to share their experiences.
