A housing association has unveiled plans to create more affordable homes specifically for families in a seaside village in north Northumberland.

Not-for-profit provider, Four Housing, is developing seven two-bedroom family houses at Foxton Road, in Alnmouth, representing a £756,000 investment.

As previously reported in the Gazette, the homes are currently being constructed by Sturton Grange Developments Limited and are being funded by Four Housing. The developer is also creating six luxury homes for sale and new allotments on the site.

Paul Tanney, chief executive at Four Housing, said: “There is a high demand for affordable homes across Northumberland, but there is a significant need in rural and coastal areas such as Alnmouth, where holiday homes and second homes have pushed up market prices making it difficult for people on low or seasonal incomes to live locally.

“A partnership such as the one with Sturton Grange Developments enables registered providers to deliver affordable housing in areas where land availability is limited.”

The Foxton Road scheme is part of a wider £8million investment in Northumberland making 63 new homes available, which has seen two projects in Berwick receiving grants from the Homes and Communities Agency.
