Two brothers who married their sweethearts in the same month 60 years ago raised their glasses last weekend for a double celebration, as both couples toasted their diamond wedding anniversaries.

David and Vivien Scott, who live near Newton on the Moor, and Dennis and Hazel Scott, from Hexham, marked the occasion with a get together at Holystone Lodge, Sharperton, on Saturday, with family and friends.

The August 30 party marked the actual date of David and Vivien’s 60th wedding anniversary, while his sibling Dennis and wife Hazel tied the knot on August 5, 1954.

Vivien said: “It was a really nice occasion and it went really well. The meal was excellent.”

Reflecting on the unusual case of both siblings and their wives celebrating their diamond wedding anniversaries in the same month, she added: “This sort of thing doesn’t really happen very often.”

David and Vivien were married in Alnwick’s St Paul’s Church. They have four children, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Dennis and Hazel tied the knot at All Saints’ Church, in Gosforth, and have two children and four grandchildren.

They marked their actual diamond wedding anniversary earlier this month in Cambridge.
