Some go for classic cars, others for a horse-drawn carriage, but one bride-to-be chose a more usual form of transport for her big day.

Aimee Hedley arrived for her wedding at the Alnwick Garden on the back of a tandem trike called Rufus, which had been decked out with flowers to match her stunning gown.

And at the wheel – or rather, handlebars – was her proud father Aidan who, as luck would have it, happens to be a ‘very keen cyclist’.

Dad and daughter did a quick circuit of the town, much to the delight of people going about their usual Sunday morning business.

Mum Lynn said: “At one point they were almost mobbed by a group of tourists, all desperate to be photographed with the bride on her unusual form of transport.

“After Saturday when it poured with rain, we were so lucky with the weather and as you can see, the skies were blue.”

And waiting at the finish line of Aimee’s tandem trek was husband-to-be Oliver Walters, together with a cheering crowd of family and friends.

Aimee, 27, and 28-year-old Oliver both live and work in Dubai. She is a drama teacher and he is an aeronautical engineer.

The happy couple are described as childhood sweethearts and were engaged for nine years before deciding to tie the knot.

Aimee’s great-grandfather was Francis Hedley, a former Vicar of Rothbury, and her parents’ family still has strong Coquetdale roots although Aidan and Lynn now live in County Durham.

Rufus the tandem trike can often be seen out on the roads of Durham with Aidan and Lynn enjoying a bit of cycling together.
