Lifeboat launched for stranded ship

DIVERS and a lifeboat crew had to help when a sailing vessel fouled its propeller south of Seahouses yesterday.

Just before 1pm on Wednesday, the Seahouses lifeboat was launched to assist the 20-metre sail training vessel James Cook, with eleven persons on board.

Attempts to seek assistance from other vessels in the area had been unsuccessful.

The lifeboat towed it to Inner Farne, where several parties of divers were active.

Some divers were asked to help out and after some time, the rope was freed from the propeller, and the James Cook was able to continue with its passage.
