A LIFEBOAT went to the rescue of a stranded 40-foot yacht off the north Northumberland coast yesterday.

Around 1pm on Wednesday, the Seahouses lifeboat was launched to assist the yacht Tranquility, which had suffered engine failure and was becalmed off Emmanuel Head, east of Holy Island.

The yacht had put down an anchor and was in no immediate danger. The All Weather Lifeboat Grace Darling was launched and quickly located the disabled yacht.

The yacht was taken in tow to Seahouses harbour, where repairs could be carried out, arriving at 3.30pm, but couldn’t enter the harbour until 4pm due to the tide.
