OLYMPIC spirit was alive and kicking in Alnwick tonight, as thousands of people witnessed a dazzling roadshow at the Pastures.
And it fell to 16-year-old local lad Lewis Denny to light the cauldron on stage with the iconic Olympic Torch, which he had carried as part of the London 2012 Relay.
The unforgettable moment was greeted with a chorus of cheers from the crowd, who had earlier been treated to a variety of acts including Twist & Pulse, Newcastle band Little Comets and winners of Talent Northumberland, Latin-American group Burundanga.
The Torch remains in Alnwick tonight, before setting off tomorrow at 7.28am from the Market Place, heading for Hipsburn, Warkworth and Amble.
