Bags of fun at the WI
A warm and friendly atmosphere pervaded the village hall on a rather grim and blustery evening at Lesbury WI.
Our evening started with a warm welcome from Susan, our president, after which, she quickly went through, together with Jan, our new secretary, all business and correspondence.
Our WI Christmas party was highlighted, together with our post Christmas lunch at Foxton Hall in January.
With our speaker raring to go, Susan introduced Margaret Davidson and her accomplice, who presented us with an entertaining, and in some cases frustrating, practical workshop.
Margaret introduced us to a Christmas tree made entirely out of an old paperback book and a hedgehog made in the same way. She proceeded to tear the back from the book, divide it into sections and then folded each page, miraculously gluing it all together into a tree. It looked so simple. Many members asked for instructions afterwards.
However, we were to make gift bags, some with more success than others. Margaret led us through a step by step process, with humour and incredible patience. There was much laughter and frivolity, with glue, ribbon and paper everywhere. It was a very enjoyable session.
After refreshments invisible birthday flowers were won by our president Susan amidst much laughter as Veronica Merryweather had forgotten to buy them.
This month’s competition, a handmade Christmas decoration was won by Jan; 2 Susan Wood; 3 Audrey.
After a highly enjoyable evening we left, looking forward to our next meeting.
