PARTY TIME: Despite yet another ferocious winter storm coinciding with a Tuesday night meeting, nothing was going to dampen spirits for Lesbury WI’s December meeting. The Christmas party was here.
The party began with a fabulous buffet of cold meats, many salads and seasonal desserts in the village hall, which had been decked out in a Christmas theme.
Bursting at the seams, we sat back for some fine entertainment. Most of us of a certain age associate In The Summertime with Mungo Jerry but for The Wintertime we had Mungo Riddell and his twin sons Ian and Neil, on two piano accordions and drums. The trio performed a fine mix of songs and marching tunes interspersed with a few carols. With members encouraged to, sing along to many tunes, there were a few silent bars as memories failed on some of the lines and words.
Thelma, on behalf of members, showed their appreciation for the party by thanking the committee.
All good things come to an end and the evening concluded with the presentation of the December birthday flowers to Veronica Merryweather, who then presented them to Anne Turnbull as she had a special birthday this month.
Susan Wood won the monthly competition, with a knitted Father Christmas. Kathleen Turnbull came second and Veronica Merryweather third.
Val brought a thoroughly enjoyable evening to close wishing all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
The first meetings of the new year will be on January 10, when the featured talk will be given by Mrs Pinder speaking on fashion through the ages: Handbags.
The monthly competition will be a perfume bottle.
