After being raised at the July meeting of North Sunderland Parish Council, Coun Tom Orrin investigated how residents could get to the new emergency hospital at Cramlington by public transport.

He asked the county council about its plans at the north area committee meeting, but had not received a reply by the time of Monday’s meeting.

However, he told members that from Sunday, September 6, the X20 will provide an hourly service during the day from Alnwick to Wansbeck Hospital, from where a free shuttle bus connects with the new hospital.

He added that it is a blue-light hospital and therefore, the long bus journey may not be an issue.
