NORTHUMBERLAND College has appointed Laurel Penrose as its new principal and chief executive.
Laurel, who is currently vice principal curriculum and quality at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College where she has been in post since September 2007, brings with her a wealth of experience in the further education sector.
She has helped to lead her current college to an ‘outstanding’ rating in the last Ofsted inspection, improving success rates and securing the college a position in the top 10 per cent of performance for general further education colleges.
Laurel was previously director of learner achievement at Stephenson College in Leicestershire and has also had various lecturing posts throughout her career.
She has a first class honours degree in law and a post graduate certificate of management.
She is expected to take up the new post at Northumberland College in May.
She said: “I am delighted to have been appointed principal of Northumberland College. The current changes in the further education landscape offer great opportunities for FE colleges and I am looking forward to exploring these opportunities to lead Northumberland College to excellence.
