A late-night festive shopping initiative in Alnwick is starting tonight and it is hoped that traders and customers will support the seasonal scheme.
Karen Scrimshaw, of the town’s Marilyn and Melrose, is behind the idea of shops extending their opening hours in the run up to Christmas.
Businesses taking part will keep their doors open until 8pm each Thursday up to and including December 18.
A number of traders have already agreed to take part, including Hotspur 1364, Victoria’s Hair Salon, The Wild Sheep Company, Regram Runway and Marilyn and Melrose – all on Narrowgate.
The Emporium, on Bondgate Without, will also be extending its opening hours.
Karen said: “I really hope people will get behind this.
“Christmas is a very expensive time of the year and people need time to plan. So by starting the late-night shopping tonight and carrying it on each Thursday until December 18, we are giving people plenty of time to do their shopping and spread out the load.”
Karen launched a Facebook page – Alnwick Late Night Shopping – on Tuesday and it received more than 160 likes in the first day alone.
Traders who want to take part should show their interest via the page, which will then give shoppers the chance to see who is involved.
