Coastguard and lifeboat volunteers were called to reports of a kayaker in difficulty at Blyth today (Saturday).

As the emergency services proceeded to the area around 11.45am it was confirmed that a local surfer had assisted in getting the kayaker back to shore.

Coastguards assisted with medical attention until an ambulance arrived and took over the casualty care. The team then stood down and returned to station.
