Committed, hard-working, absolute legend, consummate gentleman, real character, great boss, lovely guy, family man...
Take your pick – Bob Bingham was all of the above and more.
These are just a few of the tributes paid to the former Gazette editor who spent 16 years at the helm and another 14 as reporter or deputy editor at the newspaper.
The Gazette thrived under his leadership, winning several awards.
Bob was a tenacious journalist, yet, as several people have pointed out, scrupulously fair.
He was a good role model for the young reporters he introduced to the world of journalism and they learnt a great deal from him. In fact, he was still submitting reports until a few weeks before his death.
But Bob wasn’t just about newspapers. He dedicated much of his life to the community, particularly his beloved Alnwick Rugby Club, for which he was a past-president. Above all, Bob was a devoted family man.
We all treasure very special memories of him. Rest in peace, friend and colleague.
