POLICE are appealing for help to trace three pieces of silverware that were taken in a golf club raid earlier this year.
Just after midnight on Friday, March 8, police received a report of a burglary at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club. They stopped a vehicle in the Stannington area and two men, aged 25 and 48, and from the Newcastle area, were arrested and are currently on bail.
A number of trophies stolen were recovered by officers nearby, but three are still missing.
One is a silver trophy in the shape of a cigarette box, which has an enamel section on top with a picture of Bamburgh Castle on it. The inscription reads ‘Bamburgh Castle golf club, Souter Trophy, Ladies Scratch competition’.
Another silver trophy in the shape of a cigarette box has also not been found. The inscription on the top reads ‘Bamburgh Golf Club, Championship golf trophy, presented by EG Hill, 1961’.
The third is a silver two-handled trophy with the inscription ‘Bamburgh Vs Ponteland’.
The trophies are quite distinctive and police are appealing for anyone who may have any information into the burglary or to the whereabouts of the trophies to contact them on 03456 043043 ext 69191.
